Optician and Optometric Assistant

Come help us build something special in the Calgary eye care scene! Hesla Optometry, a new independent eye clinic, with two experienced optometrists, is seeking two (2) personable, energetic, and team-oriented individuals to fill the roles of Optician and Optometric Assistant.

The successful candidates have:

  • a warm, friendly personality and a flair for eyewear fashion;
  • exceptional customer service and excellent salesmanship and interpersonal skills;
  • the ability to multi-task, stay organized, and efficiently manage time;
  • experience working independently and as part of a team;
  • strong written and verbal communication and high attention to detail;
  • experience processing and tracking ophthalmic orders, dispensing, providing contact lens training, and adjusting and/or repairing eye glasses;
  • experience using Visual Eyes or another practice management software;
  • knowledge on various lens’/materials/coatings;
  • a positive personality and a willingness to work with and respect co-workers and patients regardless of age, race, colour, gender, religion or disability; and
  • an understanding of medical terminology related to optometry.

Responsibilities include:

  • recommending appropriate eyewear options based on patients’ needs and preferences;
  • taking accurate measurements, verifying prescriptions, placing orders, monitoring job status, ensuring timely turnarounds, and contacting patients when orders are ready;
  • reviewing, correcting and ensuring accuracy of all product orders;
  • educating patients on proper eyewear care and maintenance;
  • conducting routine inventory of product and ordering new product, as necessary;
  • assisting with marketing and promotions, as necessary;
  • maintaining accurate records and ensuring that all patient records are kept confidential;
  • building rapport with patients and co-workers and communicating in a respectful manner;
  • keeping the clinic clean and organized and ensuring inventory is kept secure;
  • assisting with reception, as necessary; and
  • experience managing social media and/or fluency in a second language are both assets.

 

This job description is not exhaustive and additional duties may be assigned at a future date.

These are permanent positions that require 28 – 40 hours of working time each week and there is a requirement to work one evening a week. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Hesla Optometry is located within the Poplar Centre on Macleod Trail SW, where anchor tenants include: Mitchell Eye Centre, Cora’s, Subway, and Starbucks. The clinic is closed on weekends.
