Dr. Aaron Hesla
Dr. Aaron Hesla was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta and has been practicing optometry in the greater Calgary area since 2006. Prior to earning his Doctor of Optometry degree, at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada, Dr. Hesla pursued a Bachelor of Science in Biology, at the University of Lethbridge. Dr. Hesla loves the practice of optometry and is skilled in all aspects, including but not limited to: pediatric and senior vision care, myopia (nearsighted) control, dry eye therapy, glaucoma management, multi-focal contact lenses, and sports vision therapy.
As a practitioner, Dr. Hesla takes pride in building long-lasting relationships with his patients and strives to create a professional, kind, and compassionate environment for everyone. He believes in open communication and takes the time to listen to your concerns, answer any questions, and provide a clear explanation, about your eye health. Dr. Hesla also loves a good clinical challenge and his quick thinking and problem-solving skills will help him find the best solution for each patient. Whether you require preventive care, therapeutic treatments, or vision correction solutions, Dr. Hesla is here to guide you every step of the way.
Outside of work, Dr. Hesla is an avid traveler and enjoys visiting and learning about other cultures. Prior to starting his practice, he had the opportunity to complete an externship at one of Europe’s leading Eye Hospitals, St. Erik’s Ögonsjukhus in Stockholm, Sweden, working alongside renowned retinal and ocular disease experts. After graduation, Dr. Hesla travelled to Tanzania, Africa as part of an eye care mission with the goal of bringing quality eye care to all.
These unique experiences allowed Dr. Hesla to gain valuable knowledge and insight into managing diseases such as glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy. When Dr. Hesla is not working or travelling, you will most likely find him on the ice, coaching his two boys in minor hockey. He is a frequent attendee of coaching clinics and completed his Coach, Level 2 certificate. As a lifelong sports lover, he understands the vital role that vision plays in achieving peak athletic performance.
Dr. Hesla is an active member of the Canadian Association of Optometrists, the Alberta Association of Optometrists and the Calgary Society of Optometrists.
